DC Comics has announced that after issue six of Legion Lost, Fabian Nicieza will be stepping down from writing duties. I’m sure the news of his departure will upset some, but there is some good news. Tom DeFalco is taking over for the next story arc.
According to Brian Cunningham, Nicieza’s busy schedule didn’t allow him enough time to keep up with DC’s mandated monthly release.
A master storyteller, not to mention Marvel Comics’ former Editor-in-Chief, Tom seemed the ideal candidate. He understands how to build characters from the inside out and make us care about them. He makes the fantastic feel gigantic and yet at the same time all too human and flawed. He puts his characters through the wringer, crafting entertaining tales that compel us to keep reading.
So what does DeFalco and company have in store? How about a Teen Titans crossover involving N.O.W.H.E.R.E?

He was the only reason I was picking up that title. I was already on the fence about it, and this is just the push I needed to trim my pull list down a tad.
Are they really trying to entice us new readers with crossovers? I’m already picking up way more DC titles than I ever have. I think DC is getting a bit greedy after their new-found success.
To an extent, moves like this were to be expected in DC’s New-52 era.
The initial marketing material made a big deal about titles keeping two issues in the can so DC could maintain their day and date online release schedule.
If Mr. Nicieza couldn’t maintain his commitments then I’m glad he chose to bow out gracefully.
I’m concerned about opening up Mr. DeFalco’s run with a crossover. In my opinion, crossovers do not result in an overall boost in sales. I find them a little annoying because almost nothing progresses in the main plot lines of each title.
