If you walked by Usagi Yojimbo on the shelf yesterday while picking up your weekly haul, you missed out on the 200th issue of the series.
While the cover of Dark Horse’s Usagi Yojimbo was labeled as issue #141, the thirty-eight Fantagraphics books, 16 Mirage issues, and a variety of special issues (four color specials and a summer special) bring the grand total of Usagi stories to 200. To mark the occasion, creator Stan Sakai wrote a special story called 200 Buddahs that can be found in the issue.
With a ruthless gang terrorizing his small town, a humble stonecutter receives a vision and sets out to carve two hundred stone figures. Just as he has finished the 199th, a long-eared stranger comes to his door seeking shelter from the rain!
If you have time, and are in the Los Angeles area, you have until October 30, 2011 to head to the Japanese American National Museum to check out the museum’s most comprehensive collection of Stan Sakai’s work to date.

I sooo miss reading Usagi. As a kid i picked up the Space Usagi and the Teenage Mutant Ninjaturtles crossover. Was hooked, and picked up everything before that.
Been away for Usagi for some years but it’s a great, great series that Im coming back to – some day.
Too bad that Diamond Comics Distributors will not be shipping Usagi Yojimbo #141 to comic shops until next week! There has been a week delay between Dark Horse’s release date and Diamond’s shipping date for most of the past year. It is a shame that the two cannot fix the problem or at least coordinate the press releases to the actual shipping date.
