Set in Neo-Tokyo, Akira is the bizarre tale of children with telekinetic powers and those who want to control them.  With the live action remake given the greenlight, the next big question is, “Who will be cast in the film?”

There are all sorts of stories floating around the Intardwebz, so take all of this as RUMOR ONLY.

  • Kaneda – Garret Hedlund
  • The Colonel – Gary Oldman
  • Lady Miyako – Helena Bonham-Carter

Hmmm… seems like the studio is definitely considering making this a very American styled film. Let’s hope whatever direction the film goes that it is at least interesting…

My reaction while reading this article:

Garret Hedlund – Well, I guess he wasn’t entirely horrible in the new Tron.
Gary Oldman – Hey, cool, I have yet to see him in a role I didn’t like him in.
Helena Bonham-Carter – …… Well then, time to pretend this isn’t happening I suppose.

This seems terribly appropriate right now:

What a surprise that those actors are not adolescents.
