DC Comics has announced that it will be releasing digital graphic novels exclusively on the Kindle Fire. Titles like Watchmen, Batman: Arkham City, and Superman: Earth One will be available only on the new digital device, which seems like a giant F.U. to Apple and the iPad.
While it is good for companies like DC are offering their content on a variety of digital devices, going exclusive with certain content can be a detriment in the long run. Of course by going with Amazon and the Kindle Fire, it also means that DC keeps more of the profit and doesn’t have to share a third of it with Apple.

Press Release
DC Entertainment, the first publisher to offer more than fifty comic book titles on the same day in digital and print, is now taking the world of digital books by storm. The comic book giant has worked with Amazon to bring 100 of its original graphic novels exclusively to Amazon’s newly announced Kindle Fire, including best-selling graphic novels WATCHMEN, BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY and SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE, which are available for the first time digitally.
“We’re thrilled to work with the leader in digital books to bring many of the world’s most beloved and best-selling graphic novels to Kindle readers,” stated Jim Lee, co-publisher of DC Entertainment. “We’ve learned from the success of DC Comics – The New 52 that making our graphic novels available whenever and wherever our readers want is critical to the future growth and health of our publishing businesses–both in print and digital format.”
“We’re excited that DC Entertainment has made 100 of their graphic novels available for customers to read exclusively on our just-announced Kindle Fire,” said Russ Grandinetti, Vice President, Kindle Content. “Some of these graphic novels, including ‘Watchmen,’ the bestselling — and considered by many to be the greatest — graphic novel of all time, have never been available before in digital format, and we think customers will love them.”
DC Entertainment graphic novels will be available to Kindle Fire customers. WATCHMEN and SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE are available for pre-order now in the Kindle Store (www.amazon.com/kindlestore) and readers can soon purchase other DC Entertainment graphic novels.
The following 100 DC Entertainment titles will be available in the Kindle Store, with more titles to be added in the near future.

Well…
I was hesitant because of the smaller screen, but now it’s a very easy decision. I’ll be getting a kindlefire for Christmas. Sorry IPad. I just want a top notch e reader for comics, and I can use some of the leftover money to buy e-comics.
Easy.
That’s a savvy idea from DC. I have a question for other spoilerites who have a Digital Comic Subscription or have purchased digital trades on the ipad. What’s the cost of digital comics, subsciptions, and trades??? You’ll have to excuse me I am usually one of the last people to get into tech like this due to the past video game systems and a wait & see cautious attitude. Thanks
Well you can get the Kindle app for iPad.
I don’t think these comics are going to be on the Kindle store. I think it’s just a port of the Comixology app. However, their comics are cloud based too. So in theory, you could redownload them on the iPad.
Jim Lee… you’re a bigger Apple whore than I am! How much did they pay for this?
I’m not sure what they’re talking about, Arkham City is already on iPad. I guess you can only buy it as a collection on Fire? Big whoop.
Anyway, good going Amazon. You have a lot of people interested in this thing. I hope it lives up to the hype. Competition will only make the iPad better. :)
well I guess I am getting a Kindle Fire for Xmas now.
