Press Release
As Labor Day marks the unofficial beginning to the 2012 Presidential election season, Bluewater Productions is announcing a pair of Political Power comic book biographies that are certain to drive partisan feelings.
“Political Power: Rick Perry” and a new expanded version of Bluewater’s Barack Obama graphic novel biography are scheduled for release in January both in standard printed format and on Barnes and Noble’s Nook digital deliverable.
The Obama biography, first published in 2009, will include new coverage of his first three years as the Chief Executive. Such highlights as the federal bailout of the financial and auto industries, the fight for healthcare reform, his handling of various foreign policy situations, and the recent showdowns with Congress are featured.
The comic featuring Perry, the mercurial and often combative governor who recently announced a bid to unseat Obama as President, examines his rise from Eagle Scout, through his mastery of the dog-eat-dog world of Texas politics and to his entrance into the 2012 Republican primary as the prohibitive front runner.
“Politics aside, these men couldn’t be any more different,” said Bluewater president Darren Davis. “But both have an uncommon charisma that appeals to their side of the aisle. And both have compelling stories that make for fascinating reading”
“Political Power: Rick Perry” written by Marc Shapiro and illustrated by CW Cooke, is a standard 32-page book while the expanded Obama comic (“Political Power: Barack Obama”), scripted by Neal Bailey and drawn by Ryan Howe will be a 48-page expanded edition of the original.
The Perry and Obama books mark the 4th anniversary of Bluewater’s foray into non-fiction comic books which began with a feature on Sarah Palin in 2008.To date, Bluewater has produced several dozen comic book-based biographies on historic, political, media and entertainment personalities.
Currently, Bluewater offers several non-fiction titles. Bluewater first published the “Female Force” titles in 2008 as a broad examination of strong and influential women who are shaping modern history and culture. The monthly series has featured Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Margaret Thatcher, JK Rowling, Sarah Palin and others.
Bluewater’s ”Political Power” line has attracted mainstream publicity and strong sales. The company’s comics featuring such notables as Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and Rush Limbaugh have all generated strong sales in a declining comic book market. The goal of these biography comics is simple: Tell moving stories of politically powerful individuals in an even-handed and balanced way.
The “Fame” series was launched earlier in 2010 as a companion piece to the successful “Female Force” and “Political Power” biography titles. The comic allows Bluewater to delve into the celebrity culture and understand how a person rises to fame, deals with the new-found celebrity and continue to produce in the public eye. That includes actors, sports figures, recording artists and royals.
Lately, the Vancouver-based independent publisher, has recently added several a few other niche non-fiction titles including “Comics” which looks at some of the greatest comedians of the last 50 years, “Rock n’ Roll Comics,” and “Orbit” which features biographies of influential notables that slant to a general male demographic like Stephen King and Howard Stern.

Why do you encourage these people by reviewing their dreadful “biographical” comics? IMHO You should merely post notice that BWP has sent you a new supply of toilet paper and let it go at that.
