What If… Evan Shaner was given free run with Captain Marvel and allowed to create a Power of Shazam monthly series for DC Comics? The artist has posted the results and even pitched the idea at Comic Twart.

This is a follow-up to this mock cover, my idea being that after 12 issues of Cap by himself in The Magic of Shazam!, I’d start over with The Power of Shazam! and bring in the rest of the family. The first arc would see them take on the reawakened King Kull and his Army of the Undead.

I’d certainly buy that. DC, I know you have more number ones up your sleeve. Please consider adding this to the list.

Interesting, but that isn’t my Captain Marvel! Captain Marvel is supposed to look like Fred MacMurray! Of course, good old Fred has been pushing up daisies since 1991 and so I guess if the artist drew Cap to look like Fred, he’d look like one of the army at the bottom of the page. But why does Mary Marvel look like one of the Stepford Wives? And Black Adam looks more like the New Spock. Give those characters an eyebrow trim! All kidding aside, Captain Marvel is a character, like Barney Google and Little Orphan Annie, whose day is past. IMHO anything the writers and artists have done over the past few decades to bring Cap in line with the modern world resulted in them disposing of all the elements that made Cap unique and just reduced him to a Superman clone. He should be allowed an honorable and permanent retirement.

Cap and Family need to be on their own “Earth-S” again. You know, maybe a reality where readers that don’t want to (or are too young to) see almost full nudity and “heroes” rolling around the sheets like rutting hogs can enjoy.

I like this. Have been very disappointed with DC over the year´s with the way they treat Captain Marvel. Again after saving the day in Justice and before in Kingdom come it is still Superman who comes up trump´s. Would be nice if they took the character more seriously. There is a lot of potential there but still DC choose to favour Batman and Superman. Saying that the revamped version´s of the Marvel family have been a god send. He has eye´s now! :D
