Arriving in stores today is the first issue of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man featuring the all-new, all-amazing Miles Morales as Spider-Man.
“We’re extremely proud of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1 and excited for fans to discover the origin of this new Spider-Man,” said Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor in Chief. “Brian and Sara have created an important new character in Miles Morales, one that speaks not only to the diversity—in background and experience—of a modern reader, but also to what it means to be a super hero in today’s world.”
While the weeks have been filed with talk of DC’s New 52, it’s time for you to talk about this new change to the Ultimate Spider-Man.
You met Miles Morales this summer, but now you can learn just how this regular kid from Brooklyn gained super powers…and just how it’s all tied to Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man! But before Miles dons his all new Spider-costume, he’ll first have to deal with dangers—and secrets—like no other super hero has experienced before. Superstars Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli present the new comic book series that’s captured the attention of fans, press and pundits from all over the world—and deliver a new kind of super hero for the 21st century.

Just read Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1, I wasn’t sure what to expect or how about would feel about Miles Morales… but surprisingly so far I like what I have seen (artistically) and read (story wise)… can’t wait for the next issue.
I just read through the issue for a second time, and I’m surprised how much I like this book. The development of Miles is starting out on the right foot. On the first read through the layout of certain pages had me confused, not use to following the action across both pages at the same time. But on the second read I found that the two page layout helped with the pacing. The whole turning invisible act at the end totally caught me off guard, don’t know of a spider that does that. All in all I’m very happy with this issue and am ready to keep reading more.
My local comic book store got shorted and so this wasn’t put in my pull box. I can hopefully join this conversation soon.
Love the whole concept so far, but is it just me or does he seem REALLY young, like younger than Peter was?
I think there will be a time jump forward in a few issues. In the Ultimate Fallout issue he seemed to be a teenager when he first put on the suit to fight crime. Miles might be a closet Spiderman for a few years.
