Good episode – well paced.
Great combat episode there, but the rules lawyer in me has somethin’ to point out. When Cure Serious Wounds was used on Torq, the Wisdom modifier bonus to healed should not have been applied, since the Healer’s Lore (or whatever it is called) was updated to require the target to spend a healing surge to get the bonus healed.
Well, now that is at ease, great episode and can’t wait until next weeks.
huh, so it does. Oh well, I hope everyone who goes through from here on out reads this comment section because:
HOUSERULED!
Healer’s Lore continues working as before, it’s just easier that way.
Love the shipwreck fight. Stephen’s blink comment cracked me up. Little story behind that. For my daughters 13th birthday I printed out a weeping angel close up face shot where the hands covered the face. Framed it and everything. Creeped her out a little but she finally let me hang it in the hall outside her room. Of course being the great dad I am I also printed out and framed another picture of the angel’s attack face. Fanged Open maw ready to swallow someones soul…After a few days I of course switched out the pictures in the middle of the night. Ahhh Fun times.)
evil dad
I have listened since the character creation episode and Orem’s graduation but I just can’t anymore.
This campaign is like a roller coaster (that goes slow, so more like a train), the DM has his story and the characters have there seats an you better enjoy the ride because we are just now lvl nine after 100+ episodes. It feels like characters have no hand in world creation and in turn no impact other than to be directed by the DM towards his next ‘in his mind great event’. This kind of campaign for a while works but its quickly sounding like dragging a dead horse, players seem very forced in there interactions (either because of editing or because they are trying to be ‘professional’ because this is a podcast’) and it comes off as everyone having a boring time because we are playing a game for the listeners and the DM. The one power gamer with the mysterious character schtick is almost unbearable at times, I hoped that he would change with his new character but it is like a one trick pony of ‘I am awesome and a mysterious character’ power fantasy.
This podcast was an amazingly great intro into 4e at the start and I loved it, I bought books and started groups because of it, but now it is quickly becoming an exercise in tedium (much like a super hero comic) and great example of a campaign gone awry. This show has stagnated, take a break from it, try introducing listeners to new systems, settings, campaigns, some one shots in a different universe than this one or even just rotate DM’s, there is so much more to offer us than this home brewed campaign that drags on and on.

Thanks for the feedback… Sorry it’s not to your liking.
I should have included a thank you for the hours and hours of free and quality entertainment the major spoilers crew has given me, my mileage has just varied with this campaign
Well, we can’t please everyone… hope you enjoyed listening while you did. And for the record, I’m having a blast with this campaign. Can’t wait until we release the big… oh, I can’t tell anyone about that yet…
Concerned Listener,
I think I can see what you’re saying – but I’ll also suggest either hang in there or come back later and see what you think in the future. I think that one reason you might be perceiving slowness is because the party is split into two groups and it takes longer to tell two stories than it does to tell one. Maybe both story lines don’t appeal equally to you. With me, for example, I was all like, “What? Pirates? Ninjas like me hate pirates, why can’t we get back to mixing it up with the GODS? That was awesome!” But you know, as a pirate-hater I hung in there and it was worth it because all those pirates got fried by Divine Fire which was totally awesome. HA HA HA, TAKE THAT, PIRATES! NOW WHO’S THE SCURVY DOG?
So in short, I think the parts you find less interesting may seem like a train ride with all the destinations set right now, but if you think about it, there have been a lot of twists and unexpected turns as well injected along the way. I don’t know about you, but I was on the edge of my seat during the negotiation with Lolth – I mean, Rodrigo played her to a “T” and you just know she’s got something cooking. The way the characters came off handling the negotiation and the weight of the decisions they had to make – I was really feeling that. (Good job, Ket, by the way. You are coming off as a master negotiator and I am amazed at your ability to negotiate from a position of strength with the gods!)
If the characters’ mission is to negotiate with the Dark Gods, well, when they visit these gods each in turn it isn’t really a surprise. Once this has been accomplished, however (and Rodrigo has already hinted that the Dark Gods all have hidden agendas) I have a feeling that with the stage set for a final confrontation that the finale to this season will be an experience worth waiting for in a major way.
So you know, come back for that later. These guys are gearing up for something BIG. I can feel it. And that just takes a little groundwork, that’s all. EXCITING AWESOME ARSE-KICKING GROUNDWORK! Don’t think of it as boring. Think of it as the (relative!) calm before the STORM!
Enjoyed reading your thoughtful comments, fellow HITite!

Sol Hawk,
You make some really great points, I do want to continue listening but I should probably take a break for while and build a nice stockpile of episodes so i can go directly to the next episode without a week’s wait in between
Sounds like a W1N to me! Sega!
Torq does SCIENCE!!!!! Run. Run for your lives.
I really enjoy the switch between the 2 teams. As a DM myself I never wanted to split my party and now I am thinking of doing it for a couple of months just to mix things up. If you ever decide to start a new campaign ( like you mentionned in a previous podcast) , I think that Rob would make a good DM and it would be interesting to see Rodrigo as a player. Keep up the good work !
Agreed with this. I —LOVE— Rodrigo as the DM but support his wish to take a break IF he so chooses. It hasn’t been mentioned whether this would mean seeing Rodrigo as a PC or whether he’d just take a break from Critical Hit altogether, but I think it would be fantastic if he played.
As for the next DM, I could totally see any of the current players taking on this role. I would personally be most pleased if the campaign could continue – perhaps Rob would take over as DM while Orem, Randus, Torq, and The Queen’s Rebellious Daughter went from Level 11 – 12, then from Level 12-13 maybe D&D Brian would take over as DM, then later Stephen as DM for Level 13-14. I could see that being a season unto itself. It would be a nice way to maintain continuity while giving Rodrigo a break and while also opening up the door for lots of new play opportunities.
Keep up the great work, guys. On the edge of my seat waiting for Saturday and the next episode of Critical Hit!
PS – as your Secret 5th Member, I am also obligated to tell you guys – be sure to look in the oblong box full of so-called “fuses” that the Void Godlings brought aboard. Fuses my foot! Whatever’s in there I have a feeling you should all know about it sooner than later!
Sol Hawk the Ninja
Now Level 9
HWWWAAAHHH!!!!
Now that you said that, that’s exactly what’s going to be in those boxes. lol. For the same reasons Rodrigo doesn’t want to read fan fic of this world, he now can’t have it be anything but fuses.
Great shows guys. I have my slow episodes occasionally too, and some of my favorite episodes are likely other people’s slow episodes, especially since I like the level up episodes. I like seeing what new abilities you all are choosing and your rationale for choosing them, it gives a little insight on how you see your characters and how you see them behaving and fighting in the future, especially with Rodrigo always trying to keep your eyes on the future and your Paragon paths.
@58:00: “The voice really does work” I busted a gut at this point. Great shot Brian!
Also, the mathematician in me has to point out that Matthew somehow added “6 + 11 + 9 = 36 + 7 = 43” on his very last turn, so I hope that 33 dmg (the correct amount) would have taken out Trog, otherwise the fight should still be going. Not that he had much hope of lasting past Seven-owls-wise’s turn though, now that he was finally able to move freely! (Oddly, he also multiplied 6 x 7 = 43 when figuring out how long the whole combat took in game time — it’s also my age — Weird!! Just 1 off the answer to life, the universe and everything….. )
And what exactly was wrong with Torq’s solution of burning the ship? The obelisks would sink into the astral sea, so any void creatures that use them to come to that point would just be killed instantly anyway.
Great episode guys!

That wasn’t an error. That was a deliberate shoutout to you, sir. :D
