Press Release
New York Times best-selling author Robert Kirkman has announced that his Image Comics imprint SKYBOUND will be partnering with Emmy-nominated special make-up effects guru and producer Greg Nicotero’s KNB EFX Group to release a series of exclusive products based on the graphic novel series The Walking Dead, as well as other SKYBOUND books.
Robert Kirkman and Greg Nicotero have collaborated on other projects, such as the creation of a Super Dinosaur suit, which was unveiled on Free Comic Book Day in Los Angeles during a Kirkman signing. Nicotero, whose credits include 800 feature films encompassing everything from Day of the Dead to Inglorious Basterds, collaborated with Robert to create 1:1 scale busts that would appeal not only to fans of The Walking Dead but to zombie fans all over.
“I was so jealous when I saw what Greg Nicotero and KNB EFX Group created for AMC’s The Walking Dead television show, that I sat down with him to see if he’d be interested in working his magic on The Walking Dead comic book series,” said Kirkman. “Luckily he agreed, and now I get to see awesome 3-D representations of the zombies that have appeared in the comic books over the years.”
Beginning this Wednesday at Comic-Con, Kirkman will have a convention exclusive zombie sculpt available for sale. Limited to twenty-five pieces, this 1:1 scale silicone-manufactured bust is designed by Greg Nicotero, hand-made at the KNB EFX studios, with real human hair hand-punched into each head. Each bust comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Robert and Greg.
“I have always loved the artwork in the graphic novel so it seemed natural to want to put our spin on some of the characters we’ve seen in past issues. Being a collector myself, my take on something like this is, if I want one in my office, then I know other people would want it too! Who doesn’t want a Walking Dead zombie bust in their office? ”
The sculpts will be priced at $500 and available Preview Night, July 20th at the SKYBOUND booth, #2729.
ABOUT ROBERT KIRKMAN:
Robert Kirkman is a New York Times bestselling author known for being the cultural zeitgeist of the comic book industry. Following the grassroots success of the self-published Battle Pope (2000), Kirkman caught the eye of Image Comics founding partner Erik Larsen. After several short-term projects (SuperPatriot and TechJacket), he achieved superstar status in 2003 with Invincible and The Walking Dead. During a subsequent stint at Marvel Comics, he gained many new fans with the haunting and hilarious Marvel Zombies. MTV translated Kirkman’s Invincible into a motion comic — one of the first in a growing industry trend. Kirkman’s SKYBOUND imprint, under the Image Comics umbrella, is committed to fostering up-and-coming talent in the industry, and all acquisitions are hand-picked by Kirkman himself. Kirkman won the 2010 Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series for The Walking Dead. AMC’s interpretation of the comic, helmed by Frank Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd, has received glowing reviews from critics and fans alike, and continues to garner the highest ratings for the network, making it a game changer for groundbreaking television on cable.
About SKYBOUND: A division of Image Comics founded in July 2010, SKYBOUND is helmed by Robert Kirkman, who handpicks and publishes up-and-coming comic creators for publication and development. Kirkman and SKYBOUND management maintain an active role in the promotion and expansion of their talent pool’s projects, and artist and company alike will be fully vested in the development of their properties into new mediums (e.g. television, film) globally. The first SKYBOUND Original, Witch Doctor, will be published in early 2011, and will be followed by a collaboration between Kirkman and Nick Spencer (Morning Glories) entitled Thief of Thieves.

Who would want that? Wake up everyday to look at that thing? It would be like living in Iggy Pop’s girlfriend’s shoes.
