It seems that anytime Stan Lee attaches his name to anything, people automatically grab onto it thinking it will be the next big Spider-Man, or Fantastic Four, or Striperalla. NBC is hoping to hit that kind of gold again with Lee’s The Guardian Project.
If you don’t already know, the Guardian Project is a series of superheroes based on the National Hockey League’s 30 teams. And with the NHL Championship concluding last night, this seems like the perfect time to roll out the announcement.
The conglom has taken a minority equity stake in the property that is being developed as a TV series, films, comicbooks, games, licensed merchandise and theme park attractions.
Tight now everything is in the Promotional Idea stage, but who knows… next year we could see the Vancouver Canuck superhero mascot rise again.. but will probably be stomped on by the Boston Bruin.

As long as they don’t get Greg Helms to voice the “Carolina Hurricane”, I’m good.
And I had to pull for the Bruins in that series. Gotta keep the Cup in the US! Whooo!
This trash is worth rioting over.

What made Spider-Man, and Fantastic Four, among others, a success(I will not count Striperella as a success) was Stan’s collaborators. Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, these guys were raw creative power, Stan Lee just channeled it. Stan left to his own devices gives us, well, you’ve seen what he “creates”. Though I read a few of the BOOM Studios Stan Lee books, they were Meh. This TV proposal isn’t Meh, it’s BLAH! I know what I will not be watching. One long commercial for the NHL.
Give me the classic Goalie masks, toothless Canucks, no helmets, and blood spilling brawls on the ice. You all can have your riots. Canadian savages.
