DC Comics has released another round of number one titles that arrive in September, when the company relaunches its superhero line. Today, we get a look at the Green Lantern titles affected in the change.
From The Source
GREEN LANTERN #1
Geoff Johns has been charting the adventures of Hal Jordan and the GREEN LANTERN Corps since GREEN LANTERN: Rebirth, collaborating with such major artists as Ethan Van Sciver, Darwyn Cooke, Prentis Rollins, Marlo Alquiza and Mick Gray.
This fall, Johns reunites with artists Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy, as the series begins anew with GREEN LANTERN #1 with cover by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado. Together they will continue to thrill readers and expand the Green Lantern mythos.
Change is coming. But set aside your fear. It’ll be worth the wait.
Additional titles include:
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #1
When deadly conflicts emerge across the universe, it’s up to Guy Gardner, John Stewart and an elite Green Lantern strike force to keep the peace.
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #1 will be written by Peter J. Tomasi with art by Fernando Pasarin and Scott Hanna. The cover to #1 is by Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy.
GREEN LANTERN: THE NEW GUARDIANS #1
Who are The New Guardians?
The power of Rage, Avarice, Fear, Will, Hope, Compassion and Love combine to be the most powerful (and colorful) team in the corps under the leadership of Kyle Rayner. Beware their power . . . and their volatility!
GREEN LANTERN: THE NEW GUARDIANS #1 will be written by Tony Bedard and illustrated with cover by Tyler Kirkham and Batt.
RED LANTERNS #1
Going solo. Atrocitus and his Red Lantern Corps return in their own series, battling against injustice in the most bloody ways imaginable. This Lantern Corps takes no prisoners, they are judge, jury and executioners!
RED LANTERNS #1 will be written by Peter Milligan with art and cover by Ed Benes and Rob Hunter.

I’ve never been much of a DC reader, but all of these announcements have certainly generated some interest in me. Can’t wait to check some of this new stuff out this fall.
Based on this very limited description, it almost sounds like the GL corner of the DCnU hasn’t been tweaked much at all… All four Earth-borne GLs remain active and the rainbow of Lantern Corps seems intact.
I think the most interesting bit in these descriptions is the Green Lantern Corps one. John Stewart and Guy lead an elite green lantern unit. Now I am one issue behind in the whole War of Green Lanterns thing, so maybe this has already been set up, but with the events of WoGL does this mean that there will no longer be a massive army of GLs? If this is the case, I’m on board. I like the idea of a small highly effective unit of Green Lanterns rather than a big army of them, that honestly just become cannon fodder for big moments in the book.
Does anyone else get an Image in the 90s vibe from the Red Lantern synopsis?
Hmmm….ok. My freak out level has dropped two more notches with this news. Glad to see that most the GL corner of the DCnU (btw, who ever coined that phrase, it’s great). Still waiting to see what they do with the Titans.
I’m also glad to see that the Red Lanterns are getting their own series, just so we can finally find out what Dex-Star is up to. Remember his quest for justice? That story needs to be told!
Finally news about the Corps, and to gain a fourth to the line is awesome, so far they have me locked for the first issues to be examined, to keep me interested enough to continue following the story of my favorite characters. Sorry to see Guy loose his book but partnering him with John should be quite interesting. Emerald Warrior was a good ride while it lasted, hope it ends on a high note.
So now it’s the Bendis-verse vs the Geoff Johns Universe (GJU)? C’mon, Johns is doing 3 tittles (so far). The analogy fits, right? Well, I thought it was funny.
So the split is: Hal has his own book, Guy & John get to be the mainstay in the Corps book, Kyle is shoved off to his own team and Red Lanterns is the “Punisher” version of the Green Lanterns.
Again, my only question is “Will this still be 2.99?”
Per Bob Wayne they’ll be $2.99 unless they’re oversized in which they’ll be $3.99.
The GL: Corps description makes me think the premise is buddy cop combined with Rainbow 6.
So the time for me to resume buying GL books has not come yet. Oh well.
So it looks like it’s not a clean reboot after all. All the garbage with the rainbow lanterns that has kept me from buying GL titles for the last several years is still in place. Looks like I’ll be saving some money this Fall … 2.99 x 52 dollars to be exact.
Kyle has his own book, that makes me happy
