Press Release
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Amy Adams will star in the coveted role of Lois Lane in the new Zack Snyder-directed feature film.
Snyder remarked, “Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about. So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful.”
Amy Adams will star opposite Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, as Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Amy Adams was recently honored with her third Oscar® nomination in five years, for her performance in the true-life drama “The Fighter,” with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. She previously earned Oscar® nominations for her work in the acclaimed films “Doubt” and “Junebug.” She has also starred in such diverse hits as “Enchanted,” “Julie and Julia,” “Charlie Wilson’s War,” and “Catch Me If You Can.” She will next be seen in Walter Salles’ “On the Road” with Viggo Mortensen and “The Muppets.”
Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
The new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Amy Adams in Superman, Anne Hathaway in Batman. Even if the films suck, we still win.
Bravo! A far superior choice to the brittle Kate Bosworth. Glad to see Snyder and crew are not trying to steal thunder off of the Donner movies like singer did. A whole new feel is coming off this project, I think I will look forward to this more than, Batman 3.
This is the best Superman casting news so far. Amy Adams has been my “free pass” since Enchanted. It’s nice to see some strength behind Lois for a change: I feel she’s been sidelined a lot in comics and other media recently. And for someone who grew up on Teri Hatcher, that’s unacceptable.
However, as a diehard redhead lover, I’m not sure how I’ll feel when they die her hair. It’ll probably be fine. But would it be so bad if Lois was a redhead? Sigh. I guess I can dream.
I’m not sure if I can see Amy Adams as the hard hitting Pulitzer prize winning journalist that Lois is. Amy’s naturally cheery face is going to have a hard time making me feel like she’s influential and persuasive. I think she’s an actress that is hit with the stigma of being the happy little princess that sings to squirrels. Don’t get me wrong. I love Amy Adams but I’m not sure she’ll be able to pull off the kind of Lois Lane that I’m hoping for.
I am incredibly under-whelmed at all the Superman movie hype. Maybe it’s unfair that I’m comparing what I’m hearing so far on the DC themed movies to what I’ve already seen in the Marvel themed movies like Iron Man I & II, The Incredible Hulk and the trailers thus far for Captain America and Thor. Which is ironic because I’ve always preferred the DC characters over Marvel since my earliest days collecting comics.
However, trying to portray the sheer power, physique and “command presence” that many of us have been used to from Clark Kent’s alter-ego on screen is a tall, tall order. Thor seems to be working to capture that but with the Asgardians, The Warriors Three and the big-time hammer throwing fighty-fighty sequences it would be easier to do that for Thor. Argue with me on the nature of kryptonian powers (at least how they’re treated since John Byrne completely SCREWED with the “Man of Steel”) not being related to physical build and I’ll still be pointing out to renderings of “Big Blue” from Swain to Ross.
Frankly, they could have any female lead playing Lois Lane and if the portrayal of Supes ain’t right then the film’s going to fold faster than The Flash on wash day.
Like Amy Adams, not sure how I feel about her as Lois. She should look fine with dark hair, but she seems too warm (or at least I have only seen her portray that on screen) to be the Lois I imagine.
