Variety is reporting that Friday Night Lights star, Adrianne Palicki, has been cast as the next Wonder Woman in the recently green lit NBC series. Apparently she was also a player in Fox’s Lone Star series, which came and went so fast on the network, that I doubt anyone had a chance to see her work there. She does have some DC Comics television work under her belt – she played Siren in the Aquaman television pilot for The CW.
It’s an interesting casting choice, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the actress can bring to the small screen (unless you’re like me and have a 107″ home theater…). Of course this is a David E. Kelley production, which have been pretty hit and miss these last couple of years, and with the producer taking on two projects at the same time, keeping sharp focus on both is going to be difficult.
Palicki is pretty easy on the eyes, she’s tall (5’11”), and we know her hair has already gone dark, but I wonder how many “purists” and “haters” are going to dump all over the casting announcement.

I think she played Sam Winchester’s girlfriend on Supernatural, but I could by wrong.
Anyway, I don’t see anything wrong with that casting choice. Granted “wise and fierce amazon” is not the first thing that comes to mind (that came out a bit wrong), but I prefer to wait and see.
Although you make a legitimate point. Wonder Woman is, above all, wise and intelligent. Finding someone who fits the physical requirements, but also puts off the right vibe. It’s a hard character to live up to.
*Note: I’m simply discussing the appearance of intelligence, not actual intelligence. I know plenty of very smart people who ruin the illusion with their terrible, terrible mouth breathing.
Can’t wait to see what this turns out to be, though. Still, I’d much rather see it as a movie. We’ve already seen what can be done with a Wonder Woman TV show.
Wise and intelligent? Have you read the comic lately? She’s just another bloody violent warrior.
Hey! You’re right. That is Jessica. Hmm … The photos of her on the web done give the same impression as she did on the show. … I wonder how this will look.
I still feel the black cloud of pessimism over my feelings for this. I have no problems with the actress, but the synopsis still leaves me cold. here it is again:
The project is described as a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman — aka Diana Prince — is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.
I’m sorry, but to my ears it sounds like they had a pitch for a show with a female Batman-like character and decided to slap the Wonder Woman name on it. How in the name of Hera is this like JMS reboot?
Here’s what I have a problem with:
The project is described as a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman — aka Diana Prince — is a vigilante (as opposed to Embassator/beloved hero like Superman) crime fighter in L.A. (instead of Washington D.C.; completely wrong side of the country) but also a successful corporate executive (I believe you’re thinking of Manhunter here. Diana is in law enforcement .. of a sort) and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life (as opposed to trying to GET a life … in man’s world).
Sounds like they took so many of Diana’s core elements and mixed in Batman, Titans East, Manhunter and Superman. (In that order.) I wonder if her powers come from the fact that she’s the last Martian survivor from when her ship’s lantern battery failed causing her to crash in Star City on the way back to the space station “Thanagar”.
Far more like this will be about a young, professional woman who is trying to figure out her place in the world, and balance her future while sharing a unisex bathroom.
Oh, and she has superpowers.
Oh, and she has superpowers.
Actually, that is debatable. The blurb says nothing about superpowers.
I’ve seen other pictures of her that didn’t look as good as this one. Kudos to Stephen for selecting a photo that really shows how she would look AWESOME as Wonder Woman. I’ll have to wait and see what she looks like in character before I get too harsh.
Casting is fine- all about the story right? We probably all were shocked by Katie Sackoff’s casting in BSG, and it turned out to be the best casting in Sci-Fi history. Maybe. Ok, at least in the last 5-10 years.
So we’re doing an adaption of Lear, but with puppets! And it’s a horror movie! We’ve got big talent tied to it.
Sigh. why why why, do people decide, yeah, we’ll do an adaption of this, but we’re gonna completely change it. If you want to do Wonder Woman, do Wonder Woman. Don’t do something else but call it Wonder Woman.
“If you want to do Wonder Woman, do Wonder Woman. Don’t do something else but call it Wonder Woman.”
That’s kinda almost what my wife said when I asked her to cosplay that one night …
Casting’s fine (getting a strong looking woman with the body of a super model, an air of wisdom AND able to act would be hard to find), it’s the synopsis that gives me little hope of liking this project. I’ll check the first 3 or so episodes, if only to see how bad it really is.
I have not seen the script but they have over at comics101.com and from what I read Miss Universe could be in it and still make it unwatchable because the script is a steaming pile of cringeworthiness.
Gotta love Scott Tipton. He and Matthew have a lot in common.
Haven’t always agreed with his reviews, but I can’t say I’ve ever thought he was flat-out wrong.
I AM SO HAPPY!!!
She’s a really good actress and she’s super hot, so that’s nice. I’m a little disappointed they didn’t go for a more dark looking lady, like that Indian model who was up for the WW role in the movie. It’s just my thing, but I think it’s good for super hero characterizations to lean more diverse when possible these days, and a lady from an island could as easily be dark skinned…or at least Greek looking!
I’ve only seen her in a few things so I can’t really comment on her acting skills. As for her looks, this picture doesn’t really do her justice when trying to think of Wonder Woman. She’s gorgeous either way, but there are some decent pictures of her with darker hair that make me think that she’s a good choice in terms of looks alone.
Now to wait and see how she (and the series itself) pulls off the role.
She’s got the height, they can dye her hair, and they can get a trainer to get her sufficiently buff (think Jessica Biel in Blade: Trinity). In the end, I feel sorry for her because, if the info that’s come out about this show is true, she’s on a train heading for a ravine and the bridge ain’t there.
Scott Tipton wrote something about the pilot script here:
http://www.comics101.com/comics101//?mode=project&action=view&project=Comics%20101&chapter=324
and it sounds just butt-awful.
“The episode ends with Wonder Woman sobbing into her pillow, for pete’s sake (and this after we see her in her PJs eating a bowl of ice cream while watching Katy Perry videos because “It was a three-scoop kind of day.”)”
Wow, just wow…
Well, looks like I was somewhat right. David Kelley had a show to sell and decided to merge it with Wonder Woman. Someone should send him the Perez run of the comic.
Yeah… I’m thinking that won’t work.
Beating Kelley to death with the Perez run might be the better approach. Maybe throw in Gail Simone’s run as well to make sure it has sufficient heft.
when i think wonder woman i think Lucy Lawless, not going to knock her,
i just think she looks to young wonder woman ive alway pictured the princess at a 25+ age
and she looks like some one i would cast as wonder girl
