If you were lamenting finding action figures of some of the lesser known minority DC heroes, Mattel is finally bringing the likes of Black Lightning Vulcan, Bronze Tiger, El Dorado, and Samurai to store shelves.
Don’t care what anyone says, I want each and every one of these figures.

That’s not Black Lightning – it’s Black Vulcan from the Super Friends.
Who’s the guy with the cap? And the shaman guy? And that’s really the outfit they gave Black Lightning? Perhaps the Superman/Batman: Public Enemy B.L. counts as a variant?
I meant cape… not cap.
El Dorado – SUPER FRIENDS, HO!
TO THE WIKI
El Dorado was created solely for the Super Friends cartoons and has never appeared in a DC Comic. He first appeared as minor character in the Super Friends animated shorts, which aired in 1981 season and later in Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show as a full-time member. El Dorado, from a non specified Latino nation, was added as one of several attempts to encourage diversity among the characters. Like other ethnic characters added during this period, he was seen as somewhat stereotypical. El Dorado spoke English with an accent, sporadically substituting common Spanish words or phrases, such as adding words like “rapido” and replacing nearly every instance of “yes” with “si”.
His home country was not exactly unspecified. In his debut episode “Alien Mummy” the narrator says at the opening that he is with a group in some ancient Aztec ruins in the Mexican wilderness. One of his lines to the professor was “these are the mysterious ruins of my people”.
“The shaman guy” is Apache Chief…a guy from the Super Friends who would say, “inyuk CHUK” and grow into a giant.
I knew who he was, but my friend said “Isn’t that the guy from Family Guy?”
I feel old now.
That’s Black Vulcan, not Black Lightning. If memory serves, Black Vulcan is the guy they used on Super Friends, because they weren’t allowed to use Black Lightning.
Anybody else think that Apache Chief should have been the build-a-figure instead of a standard sized one? At the very least, I’ll be picking up him and the new Capt. Boomerang.
Apache Chief is a Build-a-Figure
I think he is a Build-a-Fig.
Apache Chief is the CnC, not BAF.
this is DC and Mattel, not Marvel and TB/Hasbro.
I don’t really want Jeff #3 aka BV, even less desire for ElD, but the Chief was a favorite growing up.
at least early word is Bronze Tiger comes with BOTH heads, the unmasked and Tiger mask.
really kinda wish we had classic Digger over Brightest Day Boomer, tho. :/
(WHERE’S WALLY?!?!?!?!?????)
eh, either way, two more for the Suicide Squad!
any word on them finishing Doom Patrol (RITA!!!) and Metal Men??????
oh, and Samurai DOES have a handful of cameo DCU appearances.
Toyman is ok, but a few of us were hoping to get Schott re-using the Penguin body.
Oh man, I want ALL the Minority Friends!
I’m still waiting on my Pumaman figure…He has the power to rear-project major cities.
I know a lot of people hate Super Friends/Super Powers but this willl be my favorite DCUC wave. Some people will bite their tongues…I was very impatient getting Black Vulcan, Samurai, El Dorado and Apache Chief. El Dorado’s face is awesome and very detailed.
Finally Mattel!!!
Look at it again though and tell me that El Dorado doesn’t look exactly like Tony Montana (Al Pacino) during Scarface. They look identical.
This is great news. I liked the superfriends back in the day and when Warner Brothers released them on DVD that was great as well.
These are all wonderful but any chance we can finish it off with the one minority hero they keep forgetting.
Rima, the Jungle Girl.
She had at least 3 appearances on the Superfriends as well as her own DCU Comic in the 70’s.
