Yesterday, I made the claim that DC Comics was going to get behind Green Lantern in a big way in 2011, and a few hours later they proved me correct by announcing a new Lantern series.
The isn’t necessarily a new announcement, as we learned about it a while ago, but the publisher finally made the commitment to get Peter Milligan to write the Red Lanterns series.
“But after Geoff Johns asked if I was interested in writing The Red Lantern Corps I started thinking about Atrocitus and his anger. Because it’s not just anger. It is RAGE. A crimson red rage that still consumes him after all this time. And when you think about it, the Manhunter massacre happened an awful long time ago. Eons ago. Okay, you’d never get over something like that. But Atrocitus’ rageŠit hasn’t weakened. It is just as immense and awesome as it was all those centuries ago. I wanted to know why. I wanted to know how.”
DC didn’t announce the launch date for the series, but I’ll put my money on the second quarter of the year.

Geek confession #124 – When I was a pre-teen (somewhere between the dark ages and the crusades) I decided to “create” my own hero and costume that was a combination of Alan Scott’s GL and Hal Jordan. Name? Red Lantern. (Look, originality does not come easy when you’re 12). No acid/blood vomit in that power set but it would have been a fun thought.
