Almost every studio has a common man turns superhero movie on their plate. Many, like Kick-Ass are really up there on the violence chart, and some like Sky High really lay on the schmaltz. Somebody’s Hero probably falls into the later category, but maybe having a family friendly superhero movie could do some good.
In the heart-warming family comedy Somebody’s Hero, Dennis Sullivan (Christopher Gorham, Covert Affairs, Ugly Betty), an average New York City accountant, goes unnoticed by his co-workers and boss who refer to him as ghost-like. When his boss assigns him to the account of a wealthy young widow Katie Wells, and her son Jake who’s fascinated with the TV superhero ‘Man-America’, Dennis takes an instant shine to the young boy and his mom. On his way home from their meeting he spies ‘The Imagination Superstore’, where he decides to try on the ‘Man-America’ uniform. But when he steps out of the dressing room he unexpectedly discovers an armed robbery in progress. He bravely takes on the thief and thwarts his efforts to rob the costume store. When security camera footage of the failed heist leaks it causes a media frenzy. Apparently like young Jake, the rest of New York City too needs a superhero to believe in. Now the average guy must become the superhero everyone wants him to be, despite his total lack of super powers.
There’s no word on a release date, but the movie’s Facebook page has them hoping the movie can be released in the next couple of months after making its way through the various distribution companies.

I saw this movie when I was a kid. It was called “Hero At Large” and starred John Ritter.

Nice straight to dvd familly movie, or is it a tv movie?
Just heard it will be at the Newport Beach film festival for any of you that can make it!
Saw the movie it was surprisingly good…
Engaging, sensitive movie with a real sense of humor. Does not take its premise too seriously which ultimately adds poignancy to the emotional heart of the film. The superhero sequences are slightly campy but intentionally so and the father-son type chemistry between the hero and the boy is excellent. Production value is surprisingly good for a non-studio picture and the acting is topnotch, especially from the main character. Soundtrack is appropriate. I found a couple of the songs catchy and found myself humming them. Highly recommended for family viewing but also for a fun night with your friends. Just the right amount of adventure and emotion for adults and children!
