While it is still a hot topic, let’s pit two vampire slayers against one another and see who comes out on top. While the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series made a heck of a lot more money per episode than the entire theatrical run of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one wonders what would happen if Kristy Swanson’s Buffy got in the ring with Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy?

I expect Sarah Michelle to win this by a vast margin mainly because we’ve spent more time with her and see her face on every piece of Buffy related merchandise. I’m not a fan of Kristy’s but I’ve met more than enough people who love her movie for being one that’s so bad that it’s good. Pee-Wee’s slow death does amuse me everytime but I have to go with Mrs. Summers. (The fact that they seldom wore bras on that show definately swayed my vote too.)
Kristy all the way. Why? Because the idea of a bimbo cheerleader vamps slayer is so amazingly camp. It’s better than zombie strippers and live action tentacle porn.
Oh boy, for a long time I was part of a Buffy/ATS forum and I can tell you Hell, fire and brimstone were seen everytime someone brought this match up.
The purits voted for Kristy because she’s the one who started it all, others because she was simply hotter then SMG (I agree on that part), but SMG usually won simply because she had a better script to work with and was a much stronger actress. Episodes like “the Body” showed SMG acting skills, she’s the better actress and the better Buffy, if only because she had stronger writting backing her up and more time to developpe the character.
P.S. While the movie was so bad it was good, it’s still cannon to the Jossverse.
As long as there’s mud involved i really don’t care who wins :D
Krsity of course. why? bigger boobs. cuter too.
I’ll vote for SMG but for a not that flattering reason: I felt like Swanson as Buffy was a smart girl playing dumb. SMG…I hate to say, I feel like she’s actually very Buffy in real life. Although, as Matthew would say, YMMV.
-D
Ooops. By very Buffy I mean..very “Buffy”…wait, is that BuffySpeak already?
I never really felt SMG was “Buffy” at all. At the beginning (season 1 and 2) she seemed kinda superficial but she came across more like an average teenage girl. Not particularly bright or dumb. Definitely not a bimbo
Can’t we have an option where they fight to a stalemate?
Sarah Michelle, she really embodied Buffy, Kristy did her best, but considering that the movie was really bad, but not the worst, it had one saving grace, in Paul Reuben’s performance.
SMG for one simple reason, I was too young to grow up with adolescent fantasies of Kristy. The TV series came out right around the time I hit 12 years of age, so SMG’s portrayal was much more significant to me.
Nooo! don’t make me choose. I loved them both. I loved the movie when I was a kid, I couldn’t believe it when it became a TV show and enjoyed it just as much.
Damn. It’s Kristy Swanson as TECHNICALLY I’ve loved her longer than SMG’s Buffy.
SMG fought the forces of evil for 7 long seasons. She even died (twice). Gotta give her the props.
You should have a third option for the vote, specifically one for “Frankly, Scarlet, I don’t give a damn!”
No no, the third option would be actress to be determined later by Fangirl unknown writer reboot.
I despised the Buffy movie, but I loved the series (well maybe not “loved”, but I enjoyed it enough to own the complete series on DVD, which is the only series besides “Forever Knight” that I own an entire series of). So definitely SMG.
But if this were instead about the vampires of the movie vs the vampires of the show, then Paul Reubens would kick Angel and Spike’s behinds with his army of vamped-out Pee-Wee’s Playhouse pals (Vampire Chairy FTW!)
Definitely on the Sarah MG Prinze camp, although to be fair Kristy was hampered by the same restrictions Mr Whedon was when the movie was made.
Perhaps the best way to decide would be for the two to meet and do battle in an arena characterized by an aqueous sediment.
