The good news is you can now order your tickets for the 2011 San Diego Comic Con. The bad news? Good luck trying to get into the site. Several weeks ago, the comic convention organizers had to suspend ticket sales because of an error with the online shopping system. Today, sales opened again, but within minutes potential attendees were greeted with a variety of error messages ranging from Internal Server Errors, to a notice to call the company regarding the sales, to complete server crash messages.
Twitter exploded within minutes with angry and upset fans who want to go to the show but can’t because of the continued errors.
What does all this mean? If anything we’ve learned this morning that
- Comic Con International: San Diego is popular enough to crack the Internet in half – it’s clear now that the city of San Diego didn’t stand a chance when negotiating whether the show would go or stay
- No matter how much you try, the best planning is for naught when a billion and half enthusiasts jump on your site at once.
- Perhaps the organizers need to rethink the whole ticket selling scheme and go to a lottery system. That or take the show to Las Vegas, where floor space and audience size won’t matter a lick.
Good luck trying to get your tickets today! Can’t wait to see how quickly the entire shows sells out.
UPDATE 11:07 AM : REGISTRATION CLOSED
The CCI organizers have updated the website and closed registration
REGISTRATION IS CLOSED!
Once more, unfortunately, there have been issues with Comic-Con registration. So we have again decided to close it down.
We are well aware that many people have taken time from work, school or other activities and others woke up very early. There really is no way to convey our level of regret for this turn of events.
We are currently researching our registration options.
