I don’t know what Asterix hasn’t taken off in the States like it has in Europe, but the comic book series is a delightful read, and the movies that I have seen have been well done (and well received in France). Now it looks like the next film is going the 3D route in “Asterix: The Land of the Gods,” an adaptation of the 17th Asterix book “The Mansion of the Gods.”
Gallic hyphenate Alexandre Astier is attached to pen the adaptation, which follows the exploits of a village of ancient Gauls as they resist Roman occupation. Astier is best known for creating the hit M6 comic skits series “Kaamelott,” an Arthurian legend lampoon.

I love Asterix books and films and have a almost compleat run of the comics. Although I like the idea of an animated Asterix film I’m not sure about the 3D aspect. Public interest in 3D is disappering rapidly. Only 45% of it’s audience saw Despicable Me in 3D and I personally will not be watching any more 3D films.
More importantly however is the fact that in The Coolness Lounge (Come back soon) Steve said he would do an Asterix book every Thanks-giving. If this does not happen I will take it as a personal insult. Asterix at the Olympic Games please.
Well, it’s nice to see Asterix come back to animation, after the mostly dreadful movies. Film n°2 was brillant, but 1 and 3 were rubbish ; Astier has already proven his talent many times over and given the reviews I’ve read of Despicable Me, this looks like it could be quite good. Let’s hope !
