According to Deadline, last minute negotiations have turned positive as Marvel has signed Mark Ruffalo to replace Ed Norton as Bruce Banner in the upcoming Avengers movie.

Marvel made a pittance of an offer to Edward Norton to continue in the role. But it caught the actor by surprise that the studio decided to replace him altogether with no advance warning. Like Norton, Ruffalo would bring real chops to the role. But, unlike Norton, he won’t be an on-set asshole.

Meanwhile, Joss Whedon has confirmed that Hurt Locker star, Jeremy Renner will play Hawkeye.

  1. Whedon as hawkeye!!! That’s awesome I can totally see him as a villain gone hero!!! Good choice on both banner and hawkeye

  2. I like Mark Ruffalo, but…

Does it really matter who plays Banner? No. What really matters in this film is who is programming the computer to make the Hulk. The Hulk needs to look good and believable. And Hulk needs to SMASH!!!

Besides, my son has a digest reprint of the first three Avengers books… AND THERE IS NO BANNER.

  3. The only movie I have ever seen Mark Ruffalo in is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind and his role was such a bore i barely remember it. I can’t say I’m excited taht he is playing the Hulk but I agree with TVsBryanD that it doesn’t really matter a whole lot as long as the Hulk himself turns out well.

    • Mark Ruffalo was the main guy in the movie Just Like Heaven with Reese Witherspoon, he was in 13 Going On 30 with Jennifer Garner too. He just reminds me a bit of Eric Bana.
