Marvel and Paramount Pictures have released another image of Thor from the upcoming movie adaptation. There are no costume concerns here, but it is interesting to speculate when this even happens in the film Judging from what we saw at the end of Iron Man 2, SHIELD could have easily build a containment building around the discovery and this just happens to be where Thor shows up to claim his mighty hammer.
Thor opens wide in theaters on May 6, 2011, and will be available in both 2D and 3D formats.

BIG problem for me, it’s not Donald Blake picking up Mjolnir but Thor himself. I hope they didn’t drop the dual identity thing, because Blake is a fairly weak doctor with a bad leg and is very different from Thor in physique.
IMDB doesn’t have a Donald Blake in the cast and Hemsworth is listed only as Thor. That might be a major plot point in the film that they don’t want to show. Massive Hemsworth suddenly changes to Hugh Laurie.
It’s true that in the Ultimate U there is only Thor and no House, but there is also no Odin or Asgard. Sure they talk about it and we see Viking warriors at the end of Ultimates V2, but mostly we’ve seen Hela (boy did we see Hela ;), Loki and Thor. I’m guessing the movie will be a cross of both stories, we see the Asgard storylines in the 616 and the no Dr. Blake from the Ultimate U.
I thought that Marvel dropped the Blake alter ego many years ago, even in the 616.
From Marvel.com:
“Although Thor maintained his Blake persona for many years, he permanently gave it up shortly after meeting Beta Ray Bill. Bill had twice proven himself worthy of the hammer of Thor, after picking it up during a battle with Thor and, later, against the forces of Surtur. Odin brought Beta Ray Bill to Asgard, giving him a similar weapon in Stormbreaker. The enchantment that transformed Thor into Blake was transferred to Stormbreaker, and Thor abandoned his Blake identity, residing in Asgard and commuting to Earth when needed. Later, in hopes of creating another identity so as to more easily remain on Earth, Thor sought help from Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.. The organization helped Thor create an identity as Sigurd Jarlson, a construction worker. In this identity, Thor simply pulled back his hair, wore glasses, and dressed like a normal human.”
The current run of Thor has had Donald Blake in it from it’S start in 2007.
For the film version…it might be more plausible to have a “Don Blake” who looks likes Thor but has none of the memories/powers. Could work for me…..
WTF are you guys talking about? Who cares about puny Blake! THOR LOOKS AWESOME!! DUDE, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THOR ON THE BIG SCREEN! GEEEZ!
I agree and, apparently they’re going with an origin similar using the “Sigurd Jarlson” type character instead of Donald Blake (hell, it also saves $ from having two actors work one part…).
I wish I had the time to spend in the gym so that my arms still looked like that. Old age is a bitch but it beats the hell out of the alternative.
He looks like a Rob Liefeld drawing come to life — I hate to imagine how big his chest might be!
Maybe he will turn into Thor after lifting the hammer?
He looks totally badass!
now I am faced with a dilemma. Up until now I havent really been interested in this film. Although this pic does look awesome…that IS Thor! I just can’t seem get past the somewhat IMO hokey costumes Ive seen them wearing.
At least they’re using the “old school” hammer and not some “blinged out” version like Ultimate Thor or Beta-Ray Bill’s.
Yup, first thing when I saw the picture was “This is Thor!!!” Goodness, the guy is buff. If he can act, he’s got the role nailed down completely, because visually, you couldn’t do better.
The first thing I thought was “Odinson gonna have to be called Pendragonson now”
Exactly, maybe as a boy Doctor Strange turned him into various woodland creatures to learn life lessons.
