When X-Men: First Class rolls out to theaters next summer, audiences won’t have to wonder how much CGI work went into making Patrick Stewart young. Instead, Matthew Vaughn and 20th Century Fox have signed James McAvoy to play the young Charles Xavier in the fiml.
Before Charles Xavier and Eric Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were the closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
X-Men: First Class arrives June 3, 2011.

Wow…think the nerd rage is going to go super nova on this one! LOL
“Wanted” sucked but that had nothing to do with the acting. This is cool news.
(They sure are going young, though)
…Let the Magneto speculations begin…
I didn’t realize that they were going that far back with this story. If you estimate that Prof X is about 60 in the first group of X movies and McAvoy will probably be playing him in his late 20s, that’s a thirty year difference. Would it even be possible for any of the mutants seen in the first X movies to be included in a younger incarnation? They’d have to be at least 40 in the X movies for it to make any sense, so it would seem that would only allow Wolverine (who probably won’t be in it since they have a 2nd Wolvy movie in the works), Sabretooth and Mystique. Beast is possible, I guess, but it would seem everyone else is too young. I wonder who the mutants in the class are?
Yeah was wondering about that to..then quickly realized they hadn’t cast a Magneto and jumped on that train of thought instead…But I believe McAvoy is actually in his early thirties and he might be able to fake 40…So who knows what they are planning.
“they’d have to be at least 40” Would mean 30 (Which they were) in that case though it would still leave us with a very young group of (tween?)teenagers meaning less crime fighting probably…That is If they want to include Jean, Storm, Cyclops. I think we are actually going to see them being students and discovering their powers and Xavier being the badass hero…? Which would be kick-ass but not very X-men like.
What did I say? This is a Xavier/Magneto vehicle. Why bother with the ACTUAL X-men when the movies have already told you how unimportant they are without Hugh Jackman/Wolverine. Look FOX, give Marvel back the X-men and you can keep Wolverine & Deadpool. That way, everybody wins.
Agreed: A proper X-men movie is needed.
Disagreed: I think a Magneto and Xavier focused movie might be the greatest superhero movie of all time.
Conclusion: If I cant get a movie with Iceman, beast, Cyke, Jean and Angel the same age. I would rather wait for the reboot made by Marvel (Not Fox) in a decade. And enjoy the Xavier and Magneto ass kicking I can receive now.
And another thing…How sure are we this isn’t a reboot?
I mean with Wolverine still in movies it may seem counter-intuitive. But look at what Sony are doing with Spider-man.
There’s been news going around that they want Singer to do an ‘X-Men 4’ so I can’t see this being a reboot. Tweak a few things a bit probably, but not a full reboot.
This is that movie. He was originally directing but they gave it to the Kick-ass guy. Now he’s only a supervising producer.
Nope. http://uk.movies.ign.com/articles/102/1025810p3.html
Note in the section about X-Men 4, Singer refers to First Class and X-4 as different films.

Cool! Though I still wish Sony and Fox would drop the ball so that Marvel would get their fingers back on these properties for a reebot. Watching an X-men movie missing Xavier, Cyclops and Jean would just feel wrong. Though Storm leading the X-men is kinda nifty even if Wolverine ends up getting waaay to much screen time.
