Here’s the first official concept art from Cars 2. Looks like it will be set in Japan, which could be really cool, especially if Lightning McQueen needs to learn to drift in order to win.
Since my 2 year old discovered Cars, we’ve had to watch the movie non-stop. I’m not sure I want to sit through 234 showings of the new movie when it comes out in the summer of 2011.

Dude. me too- like 800x at my house. but it is watchable. I want to chuck Finding Nemo out the window after only 23 viewings.
I just put my 2 year old to bed a couple hours ago watching Cars. We’ve seen it a hundred times. I keep trying to put new movies in the mix but he’s not having it. He like “CoCo Panda,” as he calls Kung-Fu Panda, as a character but not the movie and he carries around my extra Battle Cat figure from the old He-Man series but he doesn’t really dig the cartoon yet. I’ll keep trying but if it were up to me, I would honestly much prefer to have a sequel to the Incredibles over Cars. I just thought that The Incredibles was just getting to the good part, which is still my thought on Unbreakable (minus the tweest and even there it made more sense than Signs).
My wife called me yesterday on her lunch break and asked me, “Where did Emily (my 22 month old) learn to say “Da-Gum!” Apparently she dropped her milk on the way to granma’s and the rest of the twenty minute ride over there was yelling, “Da-Gum! Da-Gum!” Told the wife she let her watch Cars and Mater to many times!
Like the movie, love it in HD, but am glad the she is hooked on Super Hero Squad more than Disney. ;)
Cars has been a merchandising machine for Disney. As other Pixar films have come and go, new Lightning McQueen toys still show up in stores. My son’s almost four and still likes the movie, but not like when he was two. He’d only wear Cars shirts and pajamas. The problem is I’m not sure where they’ll go with the character. We’ve had the “Doc Hollywood” plot, where he goes from arrogant jerk to nice guy, makes friends, gets the girl, and saves the town. I suppose there’s the role reversal angle where he mentors another young jerk.
Look at Toy Story. From the trailer, it looks like another “lost toy” story. However, given that it’s more of a “comedy team” movie, a good deal of repetition is to be expected.
It does seem there’s more future story potential for The Incredibles.
Besides, now that Disney doesn’t have to worry anymore if Incredibles is too similar to Fantastic Four they can make more of them and keep up the good work. Unrelated but I’m curious as to whether the next Kingdom Hearts game will have any Marvel characters? Maybe they should take Spider-Ham, or Disney might be able to actually market an Avengers Pets movie or game. Hmmm… Thor Frogger maybe?
i thought lightning already knows how to drift… didn’t doc teach him?
