Follow the origins of these new heroes and anti-heroes – from their birth through adulthood – and examine how their lives and abilities change and shape the world around them. That last “super double bubble Sc!ence shout” was magnificent.
Commence rant!
Oh and if you are going to do a review of the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie, then at least one of you better have read the complete Conan Doyle cannon.(post Reichenbach falls to) That is if you are going to criticise its faithfulness to the original stories. Sir Conan Doyle did in his story have Holmes not only be a bi-polar, drug addict that occasionally punched people for fun and sport (Pretty much everyone knows that these days) but there are in fact also stories in cannon where Holmes prevents wars, debunks the occult and looks like an idiot thanks to an Irene “Are you sure a Hollywood producer didn’t insist on creating her?” Adler (Okay less nudity is involved in that)… And yes though it is not 100% faithful and based on an existing story (And thank God for that, who want to see a mystery movie without the mystery) Its still more faithful than 90% percent of the film/TV adaptations out there with their crazy pipes, deerstalker hats and Elementary(HE NEVER SAID THAT)my dear Watson..And yes finally its nice to see Watson and Lestrade get some respect..though during some parts of the movie I was worried for Lestrade.
The only thing in the movie that were never part of the Doyle stories were not the explosions, guns, faux-occult, Victorian babes, international politics or Holmes theatrics but the inclusion of some Sci-Fi elements (Taser and radio-detonated chemical weapon) And that is it, everything else can be found in cannon.
