Who’s this Jack Kirby fellow?
I don’t know..but look at that design..could it be more bland, I’ve seen stuff like that a million times before.
Indeed.
The use of perspective. The motion lines. The shading to create depth.
Nothing new to see here. Move along.
This poor guy will never be famous.
All hail the King…
Somewhere in the Aidrondack mountains, a secret hidden cult cuts the tips off their fingers and speaks in a combination of exposition and mod slang while a machine releases strange dots into the air.
I guess I like some of Kirby’s early stuff with Stan Lee, but I can’t think of anything he did at DC that I like, especially the Fourth World: I don’t like the storylines, I don’t like the characters, and I hate, Hate, HATE the costume/set designs — they’re hideous! The whole aesthetic is like Brutalist Fashion design. Worse, they’re so different from anything else DC does that whenever you see anything Kirby-inspired, it sticks out like a sore thumb.
My partner and I have been watching the Justice League animated series over the past two weeks, and every night there’s at least one visual element that makes me say outloud, “Man I hate Jack Kirby!”
Sigh….
And honestly, if they never use Darkseid again, I will not complain. (They can send him into exile with his mini-me, Mongul — good riddance to both of ’em!)
