A few days ago we posted information regarding Oni Press’ Them What Ails Ya: A Christmas Yarn, which is a short story in the Sixth Gun universe.  Today Oni posted teh first chapter of the short accompanied by a Brian Hurtt illustration.  The short story is a prose tale of “medicine shows, magic tonics, outlaws, cannibals, and bona fide Christmas miracles“, which leads up to the release of The Sixth Gun ongoing series by Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt in May 2010.

An epic dark fantasy set in the Old West, THE SIXTH GUN is a new ongoing, full color series from Oni Press launching in early May 2010. During the darkest days of the Civil War, wicked cutthroats came into possession of six pistols of otherworldly power. In time, the Sixth Gun—the most dangerous of the weapons—vanished. When the gun surfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, dark forces reawaken. Vile men thought long dead set their sights on retrieving the gun and killing the girl. Only Drake Sinclair, a gunfighter with a shadowy past, stands in their way.

I had a chance to check out the first installment of the story, and it is well worth your time if you are at all interested in the old west, weapons of evil, and/or free stuff.
