Dan Didio just sent the following to the DC Universe groups
You may have heard that Paul Levitz will be once again adding his considerable talent, drive and creativity to our ever expanding universe as a regular DC Comics writer.
So, what’s his first writing assignment?
Paul is returning to the title he made great as both a writer and editor, ADVENTURE COMICS, and with his eyes set to the future, he brings several of his favorite characters with him. ADVENTURE is the first in a number of projects, both ongoing and mini-series that Paul will be taking on as he joins of our list of top notch creators here at DC.
As Executive Editor, and as a fan, I can’t wait for him to get started.

Well I think Matthew will certainly be happy with this news, as will many of the Legion of Super Heroes fans.

I’m tradewaiting Adventure, but this will probably be considered good news to me someday.
I hope Levitz’s return to the Legion is more successful than Shooter’s return to the Legion.
Shooter’s Legion was fine until the last two or three issues, when he was clearly dealing with the sudden change of plans and forced into a massive info-dump to clean up most of his plotlines.
I want to see a Levitz and Giffen Legion project. I want to see a Levitz and Ordway JSA project. I want to see Levitz and Perez take over the Multiverse project.
But, more than anything, I want to feel like he’s finally achieved a satisfying balance between his personal, professional and creative lives. It’s what he’s wanted for a very long time and, as someone who has experienced an enormous amount of enjoyment from his work in my life, I want to see him enjoying =his= life, too. I really believe this is a step toward that goal. Maybe the timing isn’t “perfect” for the move, but it never is.

Shooter’s Legion was good for about two issues – and then he decided to start turning back the characterization that Waid & Bedard did with Projectra so he could do a tired “evil teammate” story. After that, it was straight downhill from there. And then there’s the creepy, leering feeling to a lot of the stuff, too (like that skin-crawling Dream Girl/Brainy issue). Didio’s not to blame for its total failure – Shooter and his shield of nostalgia goggled fanboys are.
That said, I’m positive Levitz’s run will be good at least. As far as I’m concerned, he MADE the Legion; the Baxter run comics are some of the best stories I’ve ever read.

There was more there than just a straightforward “evil teammate” thing going on, but it was far too slow-burning for my tastes. I think that the salient point of the Threebooted Legion was to do something new and different, hence the breaking up of old relationships, the changes in alliances and friends, and the adjustment of the Cosmic Boy character into something more proactive and snarky. Shooter’s major problem was picking the book up in media res, with many of the Legionnaires barely fleshed out, and (to some degree) counting on what we knew about them to carry the day when we really pretty much knew nothing… Either way, it was a noble experiment that didn’t quite yield fruit.
I’m hoping that Levitz coming back means the return of some of the Levitz character and plot points that were negated by the Crisis on Infinite Earths…
