Writer/illustrator Darwyn Cooke’s award-winning, critically acclaimed masterpiece DC: THE NEW FRONTIER is back in a new printing of the Absolute edition, featuring new story pages, detailed annotations, alternate sequences and an extensive gallery of sketches, pinups, action figure art and more!
In the 1950s, Cold War paranoia outlawed the Mystery Men of the Golden Age. Stalwarts such as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman continued to fight for truth and justice, but as the world hurtled toward an uncertain future, it would take a new breed of hero to define the American Way. DC: THE NEW FRONTIER takes readers on an epic journey from the end of the Golden Age of heroes to the beginnings of the legendary Justice League of America.
Darwyn Cooke’s most ambitious project yet features the stunning color art of Dave Stewart, an introduction by DC’s President and Publisher Paul Levitz, and an afterword by Cooke.

Somewhere in Midwestern America was a place called Conover County. When the old book was opened, and the runes therein used in haste and ignorance, a place of farms, simple folk, and small-town dreams became a den of monsters and nightmare. NORTH 40 is the story of those who survived and came to confront an even greater evil on the horizon – one that wouldn’t just consume their flesh, but their souls as well. Heroes arise with power to bring against the dark: Wyatt, an unwilling protector of his former tormentors; Amanda, an apprentice to forgotten arts; and Sheriff Morgan, whose bonds with Conover County go back farther than even he can remember. See where it started, and watch where it’s all going in NORTH 40 #1.

You’re a boy from the hood. You’re brought up rough in a children’s home, trying to stay out of trouble but usually failing. Then at 18 you decide to track down your mother. Within hours of finding her, she’s lying naked and dead at your feet. So you run to Greek Street.
And that’s when your troubles really begin…
Boasting a cast of sexy strippers, murderous gangsters, body-snatching mad women and a disturbed young girl who can see the future, GREEK STREET is Peter Milligan’s reimagining of those brutal and visceral tragedies that graced the Theater of Dionysus in Ancient Greece – bloody tales about incest, homicide, beautiful oracles, all-knowing choruses, kings, monsters and gods – played out on the mean streets of modern-day Red-Light London.
Milligan – best known for his super-smart Vertigo work like SHADE THE CHANGING MAN, HUMAN TARGET and now HELLBLAZER– joins forces with illustrator Davide Gianfelice (NORTHLANDERS) to create an epic ongoing series that’s both familiar yet completely new and always with the bloody, visceral edge that makes it a Vertigo book. Take a trip to GREEK STREET where the old stories are not through with us yet.

  1. To give you an idea of the magnitude of a-holeness that DC Comics is riven with, here is a full excerpt from RICH JOHNSTON’S “Lying in the Gutters”:

[Green Light]Also in “Prince Of Stories” is mention of the 20th Anniversary Sandman project that never was. First brought to light by LITG, Gaiman gives a lot more details on what it was and why he never reached agreement with DC.

The six issue mini-series would have been a prequel to the Sandman series, centred around exactly what Morpheus was doing and how he came to be captured for half a century, as detailed in the first issue of the fantasy comic series.

It didn’t happen because DC wouldn’t agree to pay Neil Gaiman something comparable to what he might get for the same amount of time working on a novel. Gaiman stated, “I get a fifteen percent royalty and an incredibly healthy advance, I did ‘Sandman: Endless Nights’ as my charity project; ‘Sandman: Endless Nights’ was a favor to Karen [Berger], it was done at the four percent royalty I’ve had since the beginning, for a twenty-thousand-dollar advance, and I found the time, I fitted it in and I just did it. It got them onto the New York Times bestseller list for the first time ever.”

With more time pressure this time, and the realization that Vertigo couldn’t pay a million dollar advance, he suggested that DC instead up his royalty rate on the entire Sandman line by another two percent. Which, over sixteen years, would have made Neil the same amount as what a novel would have. DC offered that increased royalty rate over eighteen months. Neil refused to drop his request. DC declined the project on those terms.

Neil also points out that he makes more from a sale of a hardcover $20 copy of a novel such as “Anansi Boys” that on each sale of the $100 “Absolute Sandman” volumes. So instead of writing a Sandman six issue series, he wrote a new novel instead. Which he owns completely.

Gods only know what other works of art have been denied us because of the Ass-hattery of the upper management of DC Comics/Warner A-Holes.

  2. Red Robin solicit: “And what happened to the life Red Robin left behind? Spoiler guest-stars…”
I guess that, coupled with the cover, is pretty much confirmation that Red Robin is Tim. Why is BFTC still going?? We all know where Tim, Dick and Damien end up… who gives a crap about Jason?

Still no news on the new Batgirl title? Is that even happening anymore, or could it be somehow linked to Blackest Night?

  3. Lovely cover to TALES OF THE CORPS #2 – Hal, screaming at Sinestro’s elbow while Larfleeze’s hand and Carol’s hand and hip struggle for recognition. Very inspiring, no?

  4. Heh heh. It really doesnt divide up well. Sadly artwork that does sometimes doesn’t make a good panorama. I couldn’t believe how upset people on both sides got over that one.

There was one issue I have since taken umbrage with: @EyeRollerLass had said (in reference to Carol) “… in the same anatomically impossible pose as his poor lady.”

This is an often touted argument in such cases. While it may be “anatomically impossible” for some people, I believe that is more a function of individual ability than reality. Check out the woman in this image: ww.yogalifestyle.com/DVSTSRYogaShakti.htm
