It’s been a very good week for Boom! Studios. First it announced a new imprint – Boom! Kids – that will house the company’s kid friendly titles. The company then followed up by announcing a distribution deal with Kable Distribution Services, Inc., which will get those Boom! Kids titles onto newsstands across the country.
“We want to get our line of Pixar/Disney comics into the hands of every child out there,†said Ross Richie, Co-Founder and Publisher of BOOM! Studios. “Working with KDS, who has a strong record with handling kids comics in the newsstand market, I am confident that we will meet that goal.â€
That very cool news was topped late yesterday with the announcement that The Incredibles: Family Matters #1 and The Muppet Show Comic Book #1 sold out on the day of release.
“I am giddy. I am thrilled. The fact that these books that everyone worked so hard on are finding a large audience is just really gratifying on all levels,” said BOOM! KIDS editor Paul Morrissey. “On a personal note, I am happy for Waid, who wrote the perfect INCREDIBLES comic and Roger Langridge, who wrote the perfect MUPPET SHOW comic. Seriously, those guys make my job look easy.”
“I’ve never seen anything like this. Sure, with the current economic climate, we are definitely printing more conservatively than years before, but even so, the velocity of late in the game re-order activity for these books have been totally out of this world,” said Marketing and Sales Director Chip Mosher. “Those re-orders ate up all the leftover stock at Diamond and then some. Not in our wildest dreams could we predict that we would effectively be sold out the day before these books hit the stands. Once we saw what was happening, we went into overdrive to get second prints of both books rolling into Diamond.”
Boom! Studios is rushing back to print for both of these issues, and expect to have the second printings in stores in early April.
