Apparently Keanu Reeves wants to play Spike Spielgel in a live action adaptation of the best anime series of all time – Cowboy Bebop.

The flick is currently being put together by Erwin Stoff, a producer who has spent the last two decades working almost exclusively on Reeves projects, and recently set the film up at 20th Century Fox. “We’ve got the rights, we’ve got a writer,” Keanu explained. “He’s putting together a scene outline.”

Reeves revealed that this outline for the flick is currently focusing on the origins of the fictional “Bebop” drug developed by the military, which provides its users with a brief surge of superhuman reflexes and awareness. “We’re taking the Red Eye [story], the beginning part of the series,” he explained, “and then we’ll deal with the end of the series. We’re trying to figure out [the time frame]. We’re looking at the story right now.”

Does that mean Megan Fox would be Faye Valentine?  Maybe they can get Bruce Willis to play Jet.  Oh!  And that creepy Dakota Fanning can play Edward.  And Benji as Ein.  Yeah, this is shaping up to be the best movie ever.  EVER!

Does no one remember Constantine?

  1. Wait, what…?

I’m sorry, but I have no faith in Keanu being able to do that part, or any major part for that matter, in that IP any justice….

    • Keanu is actually a pretty damn good actor.. Watch any of his other films and you’ll see he was just playing a part. Especially check out some of the great independents he’s participated in. I think he’s perfect for this role.

  2. Hasn’t Keanu done enough damage? Wooden head already ruined “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, Now “Cowboy Bebop? Does he hate geeks or something? What did we do to him?

  3. from a Ghost Rider dvd review by Eric D. Snider on

”You know, I’ve often remarked to myself that Nicolas Cage’s over-the-top acting style is like that of a man whose head is on fire. And now here he is in “Ghost Rider,” playing a man whose head is actually on fire. What’s next? Keanu Reeves actually playing a block of wood?”

  4. Man, I love Cowboy Bebop. I don’t want them putting Keanu anywhere near this film.

@ Hermit, Keanu does remind me of a block of wood!

  5. Well, nice to see that Dragonball Evolution won’t be rotting alone in the purgatory of shitty American anime adaptations.

  6. Spike’s not a brooding lonewolf type of hero (well not always), he’s more fun and actually HAS facial expressions unlike Keanu. The guy who plays Dinozzo in NCIS would be a much better Spike. Keanu might be able to get away with a pre-Julia Spike, but no way in Hell can he make a believable Spike once he gets his crew together…

  7. Greatest Quote Ever “Well, nice to see that Dragonball Evolution won’t be rotting alone in the purgatory of shitty American anime adaptations.”
and forget Spike whos gonna be playing Faye Valentine…YOWZA!!!

  8. I can sort of see him looking like Spike but acting Spike is a whole different story. Especially with Keanu Reeves. SpeedRacer, DragonBall, Akira, Robotech…It looks like the American film companies are going to ruin the big anime franchises.

  9. I still have SOME hopes for Robotech, it was the first anime I ever followed religiously and as long as they make something like “Indepednace Day” with transforming planes it shoulnd’t be too bad. By the way when did Hollywood started hating originality? And if you plan to make a film about something with a huge fan fallowing why the Hell do they have to make a movie that non fans can follow? Trying to please everyone they end up alienating everyone.
