Probably the most exciting news to filter through the Interwebs over the weekend, was the story of Stephen Chow signing to direct and star in the Green Hornet. Now I don’t know how many Major Spoilers readers have seen Kung Fu Hustle or Shaolin Soccer but those two flicks are great examples of how to blend action, humor, and kick-ass special effects into films that work.
My earlier fears were Judd Apatow, who is brilliant by the way, would try to tackle this film, which really wouldn’t have been a good mix, but now with this news, my interest in The Green Hornet has suddenly spiked.
Chow will play Kato to Seth Rogen’s Britt Reid (a.k.a. The Green Hornet), with the film expected to hit theaters on June 25, 2010.

This is awesome news. Kung Fu Hustle was so ridiculous, yet somehow managed to maintain an emotional impact. Chow is one talented dude.
The could not have made a better choice, they really couldnt.
awesome friggin choice, i love both shaolin soccer and kung fu hustle with kung fu hustle bein my favorite of the two. this movie is gonna rock socks!!!!!!
very cool news
Are they going to do it like a “Secret history of the Lone Ranger” or that movie where Sherlock Holmes was a useless actor and Watson did all the work? I’ve never seen the original Green Hornet but I know of it where you have the main character who is nothing but an actor while his sidekick was the one who really could fight. I just think that these days it goes without saying that Kato can’t just be treated as the sidekick, subservient to the real man.
