With characters and events moving full force on The Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon series airing Saturday’s on the Kids’ WB! on the CW, it was only a matter of time before we see the likes of Black Cat and that space goo that eventually turns into Venom appear.
The first hints happen this Saturday (May 17, 2008), and the CW has sent Major Spoilers the first few images from the show.
In the episode, Spider-Man learns the hard way not to judge a book by its cover, when another Spider-Man starts making headlines … as a crook! It’s the Chameleon, master of disguise, looting the city and laying the blame at Spidey’s feet. The Web-Slinger’s forced to team up with another crook, the lovely Black Cat, to stop his foe’s faux-Spidey crime spree and clear his name. The episode is written by Matt Wayne and directed by Dave Fausett. “The Spectacular Spider-Man” is produced by Culver Entertainment, a Sony Pictures Television Company.

This show has really impressed me. The character designs might lead one to believe that it is really geared toward very young viewers, but it works on several levels. Very few problems with this one. Heck, I even break out the bowl of cereal in front of the television for this one. Old School Saturday Mornings my friends.
Seconded! The sophistication of the stories is a big contrast to the kid friendly character designs. Personally, I adore this cartoon. It’s too hard not to enjoy, and anyone who would pass it up simply because “Peter’s eyes are too big,” is missing out on a real treat. Too bad X-men Evolution never started out this strong, or it might have stayed on the airwaves.
