  1. The Charro Ninja on

OH MY GOD WONDER IS A SKRULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Final Crisis has already started? Crap, I’m missing out on major events. What about Secret Invasion? SAY IT ISN’T SO!

Living so far from a comic book store sucks.

  3. Is it bad that I’m already tired of the summer crossover events — both Final Crisis and Secret Invasion — and neither has actually started yet?

  4. Let me see if I’ve read the solicitations correctly: The Batman R.I.P. story isn’t going to be about the actual death of Batman (which is good because, frankly, if it were I’d drop DC Comics altogether), it’s going to be about the ‘death’ of Batman when some villain manages to break his psyche and make him go nuts* … ?

So, in other words, DC planned to kill Batman as part of the Crisis story, but decided against it because Warner Bros. said “Uh, excuse us, but we actually own that character and we’ve got a pretty big franchise built on it, including a movie coming out this year, and we’d really prefer that you not kill our cash cow.” ( If that’s the case, it really brings into question just how far we can trust DC’s editorial staff, and how ‘forward thinking’ they really are. )

In response and after revision, DC is ‘killing’ Batman but leaving Bruce Wayne alive if not mentally ‘well’ (like that’s ever been an issue for him in the past), allowing for Batman to make a comeback as soon as Bruce gets his head right.

Now, I’m not saying that you can’t make a good story out of this (though, without someone of Brubaker’s calibre writing it, I have my doubts). However, with all of the recent decisions made about Batman and the mythos surrounding him — Catwoman hooking up with and subsequently getting pregnant with someone else’s baby, Cassie Cain going stark-raving loony for no reason whatsoever and then suddenly being ‘alright’ (also with no explanation), etc. — I have my doubts as to whether or not this will be handled well.

    * – If that’s the case, my money is on Hugo Strange, by the way.
