Hollywood Reporter is reporting Zoe Saldana is in final negotiations to play Lt. Uhura in J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie.
Plot details are begin kept under wraps, but it is understood that the movie chronicles the early days of the Enterprise crew. Saldana will join Anton Yelchin as a young Chekov, the Russian-born navigator, as well as Zachary Quinto as a young Spock. Leonard Nimoy, who originated the role of Spock, is on board as well.
Since everyone is tight lipped on this project, it is rather hard to say if I am excited or dissappointed. I think I’m pretty much burned out on Star Trek movies and J.J. Abrams projects, so unless the two come together in the best movie of the year, I’ll probably wait until it comes to the pay-per-view.

Unless this a continuation/”lost episode” of the original Five Year Mission, this movie is going to SUCK.
I don’t want to see “Star Fleet Academy: the Movie,” a time-travel flick that allows characters from wildly divergent age groups to serve together “again – for the first time!,” or any other hokey bullshit.
I’m crossing my fingers over this movie, because I figure you can’t sink lower than “Enterprise,” but consider the abuse and neglect of Star Trek since DS9 went off the air, who knows?
Wow, Jeff, you’re going to be really pissed if the rumor I read about comes to fruition.
A time anomaly is going to essentially start the entire five-year mission–and in essence an entirely new Trek universe–over from scratch…the original series will be an alternate universe or something like that. I can’t say I totally disagree with this approach. Anyone who’s read comics all their life should realize that a little reboot can be a healthy thing, otherwise Batman would have died of old age back in 1978 (or wouldn’t that be kind of cool?) I guess Trek will be one of the movies/TV shows that get this treatment, like Flash Gordon, Doctor Who, Buffy, etc.
I hated Generations, and I hope Nimoy is just there to have a flashback and make the smooth transition so we can say to ourselves “okay, for THIS story, that’s what young Spock looks like.” But I tell you whut, I’d rather have Nimoy in there than Shatner. I love me some Kirk, but if I have my choice between the two…well, actually I’d go with Takei. “Ohhh myyyy…balloon knot…”
Zoe is HOT. Now I really want to see the movie.
yes zoe is friggin gorgeous, but i still dont want to see the movie…
Maybe I’m not as picky, but I liked Enterprise and Generations (along with First Contact but not the last two).
My only query is if this is going to bring us back to go-go boots and mini skirts again because despite canon, it would look a little silly.
I’m not opposed to a reboot, but I don’t need it to be an offshoot of the existing continuity. I can totally live with a BSG-style take on “Star Trek” – that’s what Strzynski petitioned Paramount for the rights to the series for a few years back and I was totally on board with it. But please – PLEASE – don’t try to shoehorn it in as an extension of existing continuity. Just relaunch the damned series within its own framework and be done with it; anything else is continuity porn ala “Countdown to Infinite Crisis’ which totally sucks.
