There have been philosophy books written on the Simpsons, psychological books on Batman, science books on superheroes, and now Timothy Callahan is publishing a series of essays on the Legion of Super-Heroes.
The book is going to be fun, funny, informative, scholarly, and exciting. It will cover the major eras of Legion history, looking at the way the book reflected the culture of the time and predicted social changes of the future. It will explore historical trends, artistic trends, and storytelling trends in relation to the Legion’s various creative teams. It will make you weep with joy.
Interestingly there is not a break down or list of every member of the LoSH, which means you can still get this book and enjoy your Major Spoilers Hero History.
So far, the 400 page tome will feature essays from
- James Kakalios on “The Legion’s Super-Science”
- Richard Bensam’s “The Perfect Storm: The Death and Ressurection of Lightning Lad”
- Jeff Barbanell on “Shooter’s Marvelesque”
- Scipio Garling on “How the Legion Transitioned Us from the JSA to the JLA”
- Sara Ellis on “Architecture and Utopia”
- Chris Sims on “The (Often Arbitrary) Rules of the Legion”
- Alan Williams on “Gender Identity and Homosexuality in the TMK Legion”
Teenagers from the Future: Essays on the Legion of Super-Heroes is set to arrive in spring of 2008.

They’d better kiss Christopher Bird’s Ass if they want an essay from him…
There is so nerdy – I love it. I enjoyed James Kakalios’s book, “The Science of Superheroes” (or something like that). It gets a bit science-jargony at times, but it’s funny and informative and well worth the read if you’re inclined towards the topic.
This book is indeed going to be a fun read… and not just because I wrote one of the essays! It’s available on Amazon and Barnes And Noble right now.
