According to Joe Quesada, it’s that pesky marriage between Peter Parker and Mary Jane that is limiting the stories writers can tell.
What other things spilled out of the two Marvel panels? I’ve got the highlights after the jump.
- Cory Walker will be doing art on Punisher: War Journal #13-#15.
- Killraven returns
- Following World War Hulk, we’ll likely see follow up books under the World War Hulk: Aftersmash banner.
- The Skrull story has been planned for 3 years and will come to a climax in the spring of 2008, and it may tie into Annihilation and Conquest.
- No new Young Avengers for a while.
- Runaways is delayed until October.
- A Marvel Zombies Omnibus is not out of the question, but fans won’t see it until the sequel ends.
- Seems like all “the moments you’ve all been waiting for” will happen in 2008.
- Happy ending in Endangered Species? Wait and see, but I’m going to guess…return to status quo!
- The elimination of many mutants will return them to their outcast/outsider status in the Marvel U.
- According to Quesada, there are three kinds of readers; those that buy trades, those that buy monthlies, and those that buy both. Sales are up all around.
- No Ben Reilly
- Events are roughly planned about a year and a half out.
- Gambit will play a big role in Messiah CompleX.
More summaries as I get to them!

Funny, I though it was Joe Q narrow view of Spider-Man and obsession with his choice of wife that is limiting the stories writers can tell.
Great, another House of M in the making. Marvel eliminates a great deal of mutants but continues to allow writers to repower or revive them whenever the fancy strikes them.
How the hell did Quesada get this job anyway?
Naw now he’s overplayed his hand. MJ isn’t going anywhere itsa huge swerve. Uncle Ben is coming back to life. And May and him will retire to Florida.

He showed an ability to boost sales with events that may or may not make sense, but do get people talking. The Marvel Knights project muddied up continuity, but freed writers to tell stories that “haven’t been told before.” Problem is, as I keep yammering, some stories haven’t been told because they’re not very good, or limit all the possibilities that come afterward.
Marvel has, in my opinion, painted Spider-Man into a corner in terms of his ability to do anything new, so they’re hoping that by going back to something old (a young, single Spidey) they’ll fool us that it’s new content.
Reset button on the horizon, Mr. Spock. Set phasers on “Reduce Comic Pull List.”
Now I’m curious. If Marvel had decided to take Peter back into the Initiative with a deal similar to Falcon’s (official hero of Manhattan or NY city), would you buy it?
Also, if you look at the announcements, Spidey’s not the only one going back to old-style. The comment on Storm doesn’t make me too happy either.
Maximus Rift:
I wouldn’t buy anything with Spidey being a part of the Initiative after his gigantic flip-flop, unless it ends up being some lame amnesty deal for all the unregistered super heroes. By the way, notice how everyone seems to be leaving Daredevil and Hell’s Kitchen alone? What’s up with that?
What’s going on with Storm? First Spidey and one of my decent black super heroes? I can’t take it!
Bro129: Because Joe Q could care less about DD? Just equate it to the same reason Avengers/X-Men never help each other in “world-destroying” events.
Then, basically, the “Spidey-unmasking” story was doomed from the start because I see no way for Peter to be able to keep web-slinging and keep his marriage from dissolving unless you re-mask him.
You know, the more I look at it, the more I see the crappy writing behind this.
Joe Q is starting to look more like Doctor Doom to me.
Whoever said Joey Q was the Skrull was a genius.
