Hulk is smashing his way across Manhattan and now it is The Initiative’s turn to try and bring down the Green King.
Marvel Comics has sent us a sneak peek at the issue that arrives in stores in August, and wants us to remind readers that you can get caught up with the action in World War Hulk: Frontline #4 too!
AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE #5
Written by DAN SLOTT
Penciled by STEFANO CASELLI
Cover by JIM CHEUNG
Rated T+
In Avengers: The Initiative #5, written by Dan Slott and illustrated by Stefano Caselli, the team of new recruits heads into the war zone to save innocent lives, but they might have to look after themselves first when they come face to face with the Green King! Plus, Hardball must cope with the fact that the S.P.I.N. Tech he stole from Stark’s lab was the one weapon that could have stopped the rampaging monster dead in his tracks. Meanwhile, Henry Gyrich dispatches the Shadow Initiative to deal with the Hulk, but who are these questionable heroes? Constrictor? Bengal? One…two…three enigmatic Iron Spiders? A line-up like this makes the Thunderbolts look like the Mighty Avengers! And the most terrible secret of all – who is Mutant Zero? Perhaps the rumors of a 199th mutant are true after all…
Avengers: The Initiative #5 arrives August 29th for $2.99.

I love Justice’s smirk at the New Warriors tag.
That hit list is confusing. What is the Hulk’s beef with Spider-Man, Cyclops, Wolverine, Ms. Marvel, and Tigra?
Wow, the Initiative lasted one whole page against the Hulk’s crew – they did better than I thought! :-)
I’m not sure whether I should laugh or cry at Madcap getting stomped on, *literally*, by the Warbound. And did Elloe just run him through with a sword in the prior panel? Can he live through that?
I’m curious what the Black Ops team is up to though, hopefully something a little less “directly controntational”.
That’s Slapstick, not Madcap. Show some respect for the recently run though and stomped on.
Not that I’m worried, if I remember correctly, Slapstick was like a Looney tune and could take a hole through the stomach and just “pop” back good as new.
They better not kill Slapstick….
Additionally, since when was the Designate (thor Girl) such a push over?
i think that’s Slapstick, not Madcap…
Slapstick has all the powers of a cartoon, and should be fine…

In order: Tired of his overexposure, Tired of his whining about his lot in life when he has had no less than three super-hotties in love with him, Tired of #181 being the only valuable Hulk back issue, Tired of her being a big stinky liar, and Tired of her being a giant tease.
What you said about Cyclops could also apply to Spider-Man, you know? ;p
Slapstick… Madcap… Goofy… ‘eh…
And Thor-Girl is essentially “Thor-Lite” now after she gave up her Designate powers to Odin so that he could fight Surtur.
I have to laugh at the “A line-up like this makes the Thunderbolts look like the Mighty Avengers!” spin on the Shadow Initiative.
Man, I’m not the biggest Rage fan, but I sure as hell don’t wanna see get the beatin’ of his life.
Da hell’s he think (for those that don’t know this character he’s the one about to tangle with the HULK!!)?!?
Looks like Korg’s working out his frustrations on the Thor look-alike.
