DC Comics has announced that Madame Xanadu will get her own ongoing Gothic romance series under the Vertigo banner.

Told as a gothic romance and interweaving elements of history and mythology, MADAME XANADU revisits famous legends and stories of different eras through Madame Xanadu’s personal history and her odd connection to the mysterious Phantom Stranger. Who is she? How did she come to be known as Madame Xanadu? Why is she connected to so many of history’s most important figures? For the first time these secrets will be revealed.

The series will be written by Matt Wagner, of Grendel and Mage fame, and illustrated by Amy Hadley.

I have no doubt Wagner will be able to tell a fascinating tale, I just hope fans get into the story enough that it isn’t dropped after 12 issues.
