Image Comics has announced Crawl Space, a brand new horror series by Rick Remender and Kieron Dwyer, is set to arrive in October – hey, just in time for Halloween.
“CRAWL SPACE is a series of horror stories Kieron and I have been cooking up for years. Like an expanded Tales From the Crypt where each tale is given many issues to develop — it’s not an anthology,” explains Remender, the series’ writer. “Since completing SEA OF RED, Kieron and I have been cooking up new horror stories together and over the next few years, they’ll all be wedged out of the CRAWL SPACE and into the horrible light of day.”
While there is certainly a resurgence of horror comics featuring vampires, werewolves, and the like, I think the zombie genre has run its course, which just so happens to be the subject of the first issue.
That being said, after reading the premise of XXXombies, I’m interested on this retro take on the subject. Set in the 1970s, XXXombies finds a sleazoid producer and his adult stars on a weekend film shoot. It’s only after they return home do they discover the zombie horror that awaits them. Even more interesting is Tony Moore is collaborating on the project. Sounds like this is going to be zombiesploitation at its best!

Rick Remender will be at the San Diego Comic Con next week signing 100 limited edition XXXombies movie posters at the Image Comics booth (#2729) on Saturday.
Crawl Space #1 arrives October 24, and will sell for $2.99.
