DC Comics has sent Major Spoilers the cover for the first trade of 52 arriving May 30, 2007. This is a great looking cover that I can’t stop looking at (mainly because I made it my new desktop wallpaper).
All I can say is this cover reminds me a great deal of the original Star Wars movie posters from the 70s. If this is indeed an homage, then I can’t wait to see the covers for the other trades when they come out.
Am I wrong? Can you see the resemblance? DC’s only comment when questioned was “Oh, that’s a story for another time…”
And if you are a fan of the brilliant covers by J.G. Jones, you’ll be happy to know all of the covers are going to be collected in a special hardcover edition this August.

I see what you mean by the “Star Wars” thing. It definitely borrows the structure of several SW posters (notably Drew Struzan’s consistently awesome stuff) and the general tapered shape of the “52” logo is very similar to one of the classic “Star Wars” logos. Mmm…Soder Cola.
Notice how the Soder Cola could be a stand in for R2D2 and Booster Gold can only be C3P0, Ralph Dibny = Han Solo, Montorya = Leia, Heroes in Space = X-Wings flying away from exploding Death Star etc. It’s a very cool cover.
Most GN’s just have the name on it. Why does this cover say Volume One? Are they planning a Second Volume?
This is the first of four graphic novels collecting the 52 issues.
For some reason I assumed all 52 would be in GN – but I guess that might be a little too much.
