You can read that headline in a number of different ways. If you are familiar with my life outside of comics, you’ve probably seen me write or comment about the Red One digital camera developed by Jim Jannard of Oakley glasses fame. This is one of those revolutionary pieces of technology that should officially release in a couple of weeks at the National Association of Broadcasters convention.
In order to get a piece of equipment out to the mass market, it needs to be tested and developed, and that means beta testers. As much as I want one, like many others I’m going to have to wait. But not everyone suffers the same fate as poor poor pitiful me. Word out of Prague this morning is the Red One camera will be used to “film” Universal’s adaptation of Mark Miller’s graphic novel Wanted.
Wanted, however, will be the film to watch. It’s the first work of Bekmambetov’s since his Night Watch and Day Watch became sensations in Russia (the third film in the trilogy is currently in production), and he’ll be using some new toys. Wanted will be the first film to be shot with the brand-new Red One 4k digital camera, something that has cinematographers salivating.
The film stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie.
Here is how Wikipedia describes the comic series:
The premise of Wanted is that all the world’s super-villains decided to band together in 1986 and use their vast collective powers — including mad science, magic and mind control — to eliminate all the world’s superheroes and rewrite reality in their own dark image; prior to this the world was a brighter, more hopeful place (a clear reference to the end of the Silver Age). Superheroes are remembered as fiction (as they are in the real world), and behind the scenes a cabal of the leading super-villains run the entire world.
Mama’s boy Wesley Gibson discovers that his recently-assassinated father was a super-criminal called The Killer, and that Wesley has inherited his perfect aim and uncanny skill with any weapon. Wesley enters a new life, and must deal with the most dangerous and evil people in the world — whose ranks now include Wesley himself.
