It’s only been out a day, and already Buffy: Season 8 issue #1 is sold out. That’s over 100,000 copies! Because of the high demand, Dark Horse Comics will be going back to press. The second edition will hit stands March 28, just a week before issue #2 arrives.
“Admittedly, our expectations were already gigantic, but this has surpassed even those” says Dirk Wood, Director of Marketing. “We couldn’t be happier about how this has launched, and have high hopes for upcoming issues.”

I’ll say this for Buffy: The response to it has been phenomenal, even beyond that for Cap #25. Not only that, much like the Anita Blake comic, it’s bringing non-traditional customers (generally, women 25-50) into the store, AND wiping out my back issue stash of Dark Horse Buffy issues and knocking a hole in the IDW Angel back-issues as well.
I don’t think it’ll last, but it’s nice to see at least a couple of books targeting something other than the standard audience (that’s us, by the way) into the business. The stigma on comics is slowly getting less and less meaningful, and that’s a good sign. Unfortunately, both Anita and Buffy are targeting people who are already IN fandom, just a different segment thereof. I still haven’t seen a rush on titles with a wider audience, such as the 24 or CSI comics.
I live in Australia and was lucky to be at my local comic book shop when they were unpacking it both i and my sister are huge fans of Buffy and Angel and ever since the finally its been great to have the comics its almost as if it didnt end. My reaction of it being sold out is suprised aswell. Any way reading the comic book was better then i thought continuing from the tv series with more crazy and fun story line is great and not to give away anything but i like the joke about who xander looks like.
